CAF Champions League Simba SC held, Yanga SC snatch late goal against Al Ahly

Tanzanian sides Simba SC and Young Africans (Yanga SC) have registered draws in their respective groups for the CAF Champions League on Saturday.

Wekundu wa Msimbazi, who drew 1-1 in their opening Group B match against ASEC Mimosas picked a goalless draw away to Jwaneng Galaxy in a match played at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana.

Simba who reached the quarter-final stage last season are now second in the group with two points, while Jwaneng top with four points. At the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, hosts Yanga needed a late goal by Pacome Zouzoua in the second minute of added time to hold African giants Al Ahly 1-1.

South African international Percy Tau gave the Egyptian side the lead after 87 minutes, but Yanga kept pushing forward. It was the first point for Yanga in Group D after they started the campaign with a 3-0 away defeat to Algeria’s CR Belouizdad.

Action will continue next week with Sudan’s Al Hilal playing away to Etoile du Sahel, while Yanga will battle Medeama FC in Ghana with both matches on December 8. Meanwhile, Simba will play away to Wydad in Morocco on December 9.
