AFCON AFCON 2023: My ultimate target is to lift the trophy – Salah

Egypt superstar Mohamed Salah has admitted his ultimate target is to help the Pharaohs lift the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Salah and Egypt after losing two finals, the most recent one in the last edition when they were defeated on penalties by Senegal. “I want to win this competition. I would love to win it,” said the 31-year-old Salah, who was a teenager when Egypt lifted the AFCON in 2010.

The Liverpool forward added: “It’s a great feeling every time you step on the field with the national team jersey,” adding: “It’s something I cannot take for granted. I am just happy to be there, happy to play in the tournament.”

Egypt will take on Ghana, Cape Verde, and Mozambique in Group B at the 2023 finals kicking off on January 13 in Cote d’Ivoire. Salah linked up with the squad as the Pharaohs’ preparations moved up a gear.
