AFCON AFCON 2023: Daka on target as Zambia hold Cameroon in warm-up

Zambia drew 1-1 with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in a pre-Africa Cup of Nations friendly at Saudi Arabia’s King Abdallah Stadium on Tuesday.

Leicester City striker Patson Daka scored in the 11th minute to put the Chipolopolo ahead before Cameroon equalised in the 20th minute when Yongwa Ngameni tapped in from close range.

Both the Indomitable Lions and the Chipolopolo Boys made their intentions clear from the start, with Ngameni missing a chance after a cross from Castelletto in the sixth minute and Fashion Sakala shooting off target four minutes later.

It was Daka’s 19th senior Chipolopolo goal in 41 appearances since making his debut in 2015 and equaled former Chipolopolo striker Kenneth Malitoli’s international tally which he achieved in 80 caps.

Zambia under Avram Grant and who are in the same group as Morocco, Tanzania, and DR Congo, will now head to Ivory Coast where they will face DR Congo in their Group F opener on January 17 in San Pedro.

Meanwhile, the Indomitable Lions, who are in Group C alongside Gambia, Guinea, and Senegal, will kick off their campaign against Guinea on January 15 in Yamoussoukro.
