AFCON AFCON 2023: Bafana Bafana fire blanks in final warm-up against Lesotho

Bafana Bafana played out to a 0-0 draw against Lesotho to wrap up their preparations ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

In the friendly fixture that was played behind closed doors at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Wednesday, the Hugo Broos led side struggled to break down Lesotho, who provided a strong defensive line.

Broos started the match with a strong line-up that saw Veli Mothwa in goal for Ronwen Williams. Siyanda Xulu and Nkosinathi Sibisi were partnered in central defence and Aubrey Modiba and Khuliso Mudau played as fullbacks.

Teboho Mokoena and Sphephelo Sithole marshalled the midfield with Percy Tau starting as a false No 9, Mihlali Mayambela and Thapelo Maseko were on the wings while Evidence Makgopa started as the lone striker.

South Africa will kick off their campaign against Mali at Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo on Tuesday, take on Namibia on January 21 before ending their group stage matches against Tunisia on January 24.
