When Guinea plays Gambia in their second Africa Cup of Nations game on Friday night at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium, they will be hoping to build on a strong start to their campaign.
In this year’s tournaments, Group C has been dubbed the Group of Death. Senegal has jumped out to an early lead after winning the group’s lone match during the opening round of fixtures.
Despite starting the game as the underdog, Guinea, one of the most improved teams in Africa in recent years, put on another great show in their opening game, taking a point off Cameroon.
In order to advance to the round of sixteen in consecutive AFCON competitions, the Scorpions of Gambia will have to improve on their performance against Senegal.
The two teams will face off in an AFCON encounter for the second time; the first meeting took place in the tournament’s last 16 in 2022 and ended with a 1-0 victory for Gambia.
