Transfer window Nicolas Pepe : ex-Arsenal star and AFCON 2023 winner to leave Trabzonspor this summer

Ivory Coast international and 2023 AFCON winner Nicolas Pepe will leave Turkish Super Lig side after another disappointing season with the club.

The 28-year has been struggling with injuries and regular game time since leaving French side Lille in 2019 to join London giants Arsenal.

However, he never proved he was worthy of the €80m the Gunners paid to sign him in summer 2019.

He has been sent on loan last season at OFC Nice in Ligue 1 but he still failed to find back his level and Arsenal decided to release him in September 2023 despite his one-year contrat remaining.

“We can confirm that Nicolas Pepe is leaving the club. We have agreed with Nicolas to terminate his contract with immediate effect. Ivory Coast international Nicolas, who joined us from French side Lille in summer 2019, won the FA Cup with us in 2020, assisting our winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Chelsea. During his time at the club, the forward has made 111 appearances for us in all competitions”, Arsenal announced then in a statement.

Nine months later, Nicolas Pepe did not get up to the expectations in Turkey and Trabzonspor will not extend his contract.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Super Lig side told Pepe that he will get no other chance to prove himself as he will leave the club next month.

The 28-year old now becomes a free agent and will look for a new home for himself. But Fabrizio Romano assures that he ruled out joining Saudi Arabia clubs as he wants to stay in Europe.

With Trabzonspor, Nicolas Pepe scored 5 golas and provided 2 assists in 19 appearances across all competitions.
