Italian champions Napoli’s chances of playing in Europe next season were hanging by a thread after a 2-2 draw with Fiorentina in Serie A on Friday.

Napoli took the lead in the eighth minute when defender Amir Rrahmani nodded in Matteo Politano’s corner.

Cristiano Biraghi equalised for Fiorentina in the 40th minute with a free kick, and M’Bala Nzola put the hosts ahead two minutes later with a drive into the bottom corner of the net.

They may still qualify for the Europa League by either leapfrogging Rome or winning the Europa Conference League final on May 29 against Greece’s Olympiakos.

Napoli, in ninth place with 52 points, still has a slender chance of qualifying for the Europa Conference League playoffs.
