Nigeria FIFA 2026 WCQ:CAF Appoints Gabon Referee For Nigeria Vs Benin Game

Pierre Ghislain Atcho, a Gabonese official, has been named the referee for Benin Republic’s 2026 World Cup qualification match against Nigeria.

FIFA has announced adjustments to the officiating crew for the 2026 World Cup qualifying match, which is set to take place on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in the Ivorian capital.

The adjustments have resulted in the departure of Ethiopian official Bamlak Tessema Weyesa, who was initially set to referee the match at 4 p.m.

Pierre Ghislain Atcho, a Gabonese official, will take his place as referee.

Weyesa’s compatriots Temesgin Samuel Atango and Tigle Gizaw Belachew have been retained as assistant referees 1 and 2, respectively.

Another Ethiopian, Tewodros Mitiku, who had been assigned as fourth official, has been removed and replaced by Cameroonian Antoine Max Effa Essouma.

The originally-designated referee assessor, match commissioner, and security officer all remain in place for the Day 4 match, which takes place only three days after the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana duel at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Day 3.
