The Egyptian national team held Guinea-Bissau to a 1-1 draw in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Monday evening.
After a convincing 2-1 victory over Burkina Faso last week, the Pharaohs were looking to extend their lead at the top of Group A in the qualifiers. However, they faced a tough task when they travelled to play against Guinea-Bissau away from home in the group’s fourth round.
A slow start to the game saw the hosts take the lead in the first half after taking advantage of a defensive scramble inside the box. The ball took a deflection off Ramy Rabia into the path of Mama Balde who slotted calmly past Mohamed El-Shenawy in the 42nd minute.
However, Egypt got back into the game in the second half with Liverpool’s Salah skipping past multiple defenders before firing the ball into the roof of the net for the equaliser. The 31-year-old’s strike allowed the visitors to create more chances but his side were unable to find the lead in the latter stages of the game.
The draw meant that Egypt maintained their six-point lead at the top of their group with six games remaining.
