Kenya Gor Mahia unveil Brazilian Martins Neiva as McKinstry replacement

Gor Mahia have confirmed the appointment of Brazilian Leonardo Martins Neiva as their new head coach ahead of the new season set to kick off in August.

The Kenyan champions unveiled the 47-year-old tactician on Monday. In a statement on their official website, the club said: “Leo Neiva from Brazil is our new head coach; the ex-Vipers SC, Young Africans (Yanga SC) and Al-Merrikh coach will be assisted by our former player and coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and Michael Nam.”

Gor Mahia have been in the market for a new replacement following the exit of Johnathan McKinstry, who left to take up the vacant role at the Gambia national team.

Meanwhile, Uganda Cranes attacking midfielder Chris Pius Akena has completed a move to Gor Mahia after signing a two-year contract. He previously played for Greek clubs Apollon Kalamarias FC and M.A Agias Marinas.

Akena has also featured for Al Rams Sports Club, UAE, and FC Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai. The 21-year-old, who made his debut for Uganda Cranes in 2022, is a product of the Pro-Way Soccer Academy and the Qatar ASPIRE Academy Football Project.
