Africa Asante Kotoko: The Ghanaian club must have its own stadium

The Porcupine Warriors football club was establishment since August 31 1935. Since then, Asante Kotoko has adopted a number of state-owned facilities with the Jackson park. Most especially, Kumasi Sports stadium (rechristened Baba Yara Sports stadium) which has brought fond memories for the former Africa champions.

Overlord of Asanteman, Otumfour Osei Tutu II is the sole shareholder of Asante Kotoko. He has charged the newly constituted board of directors to get the Porcupine Warriors its own stadium.

Despite the well documented history of the club, it cannot boast of its own stadium. This has impressed on the life patron of the club. He has thus instructed the new board of directors to build a stadium for the club.

During Dr Kyei’s initial three-year reign as Executive Chairman there were proposals for such an edifice to be built. But it has not come to achievement. However, now with Otumfour’s charge, it might expedite the process of building the club’s stadium.

“The club is to have its own stadium,” Manhyia Chief of staff, Kofi Badu declared to the board at their maiden meeting on tuesday.
