Africa Soccer FAZ says Zambia to field two teams in CAF club competitions

Zambia will field two clubs only in CAF competitions for the year 2022 to 2023, the country’s FA general secretary (GS) has confirmed.

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) GS Adrian Kashala has released a statement over the CAF competitions.

He said CAF has informed all its member associations, including Zambia, about the number of slots allocated to each country for the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Kashala says only 12 countries are eligible to field four teams comprising two in the CAF Champions League and the same number in the Confederation Cup.

He, therefore, said Red Arrows will fly Zambia’s flag in the Champions League while Zesco United will represent the country in the Confederation Cup.

Kashala urged clubs to step up their performance in CAF competitions for the country to earn more slots.

We wish to inform our football family of the communique from CAF that the inter-club competitions representation has been revised after a four-year cycle. Zambia will have two clubs in CAF competitions for the 2023 season,” Kashala says.

CAF has set September 9-11 for the preliminary round matches of the 2022 season with return legs earmarked for September 16-18.

The second round will run from October 7 to 9 for the first legs with return fixtures between October 14 and 16.
