Liverpool Liverpool Defeats 10-Man Newcastle To Keep Top Four Hope Alive

Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo scored as Liverpool defeated 10-man Newcastle 2-0 at St. James’ Park on Saturday Night Football to cut the deficit to fourth place to six points.

The hosts put Liverpool under pressure early on, but they quickly went up 2-0 against the flow of play thanks to goals from Nunez and Gakpo.

Then, Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope was dismissed for blocking a shot with a handball outside of his box.

The Carabao Cup final on Easter Sunday will now be missed by the England international.

Unfazed by losing a player, Newcastle remained the most dangerous team.

Alisson stopped Allan Saint-left-foot Maximin’s shot with some help from the bar, and then Dan Burn and Fabian Schar both missed golden opportunities from set pieces with their heads either side of halftime.

As they move up to ninth place, Liverpool has now defeated Newcastle twice this season and is the only team to do so in the Premier League.

In contrast, the Magpies are currently on a three-game losing streak before a crucial matchup against Manchester United at Wembley.
