Nigerian Players abroad Awoniyi Score A Brace To Help Forest Win Over Southampton

In Monday’s Premier League match, Nottingham Forest defeated Southampton 4-3 thanks to a brace from Taiwo Awoniyi.

Awoniyi has scored six goals in 24 league games for Forest so far.

Southampton substituted Paul Onuachu in the 76th minute, replacing Awoniyi in the 81st minute.

The former Genk striker is failed to score for the bottom-dwelling team.

Forest knew that a victory over Southampton would lift them out of the relegation zone and put them above both Everton and Leicester City in the standings.
Awoniyi’s quick-fire double gave Forest a 2-0 lead, but Carlos Alcaraz cut the Saints’ deficit in half.

However, owing to a Morgan Gibbs-White penalty, Forest did lead by two goals going into the halftime.
Lyanco’s header brought Southampton one step closer in a wild contest before Danilo scored once again for the Reds to make it 4-2.

Filipe appeared to have given Forest a decisive advantage, but VAR disallowed the goal for offside.

James Ward-Prowse then added a penalty in stoppage time to make the final seconds tense.

But Forest managed to hold on to win the game and secure a crucial three points, which leaves the team’s future in their own hands before the season’s last three games.

With 33 points, Forest are now in 16th place, while Southampton are still at the bottom with 24 points.
