Manchester City My Thought Is Just Everton, No More Than That-Guardiola

Before Sunday’s Premier League trip to Everton, Pep Guardiola declared that all memories of Manchester City’s Champions League semifinal matchup with Real Madrid have been purged.

Treble-chasing After their last-four match ended in a 1-1 stalemate in the first leg this week, City will visit Real on Wednesday in an attempt to advance to the elite club competition’s final.

Guardiola has been waiting for the Champions League trophy since he took it for the second time while managing Barcelona, and City have never taken home the prize.

The Premier League leaders cannot afford to relax as they travel to relegation-threatened Everton in a match that is significant at both ends of the table, notwithstanding the importance of the Real match.

Any misstep at Goodison Park would allow second-placed Arsenal, who are only one point behind City despite having played one more game, to retake the lead.

“My thought is just Everton – no more than that,” Guardiola said on Friday.

“It’s 11 months working for the Premier League.

“We don’t have much time to Madrid because we play Sunday – thank you so much – but it’s a real, real priority, Goodison Park.”

Real has an additional day off before the second leg because they compete in LaLiga on Saturday.

Guardiola would have loved to play on Saturday as well, but he claims he is over whining about the schedule as his team shoots for its fifth Premier League championship in six years.

“I can’t understand it but I’m not going to fight it anymore,” said the City boss. “I don’t understand it but we have to adapt. The schedule, it is what it is.”
