Uganda Vipers SC UPL title celebrations over, focus on Uganda Cup – Isabirye

Vipers SC coach Alex Isabirye has warned his players’ celebrations for winning the Ugandan Premier League title are now over and they should focus on their domestic cup fixture against Bright Stars on Tuesday.

The Venoms lifted their sixth league title on Sunday after thrashing Busoga United 5-0 and made history along the way as they defended the league title for the first time.

Vipers finished the season on 53 points but won the title on goals difference, and this was after close challengers SC Villa suffered a 1-0 defeat against URA FC at Wankulukuku, to drop to third with 52 points.

“Of course, we were happy after winning the league title but I know players are professionals, the partying is done and we’re focused on the game tomorrow [Wednesday],” Isabirye told the club’s official website.

“They know what it means to win tomorrow’s game, we have to win the game because that was my target when I came here; to win every game. The celebrations are done, we’re focused on tomorrow’s game because we want to play the final.”

In the first semi-final at St Mary’s Kitende, Vipers hammered Bright Stars 4-0 with Bright Anukani notching a brace while Yunus Sentamu and Karim Watambala scored one apiece.

Should Vipers progress, they will meet Police FC, who eliminated Adjumani TC, with the final set for the Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium in Lira on Saturday.
