Uganda Byekwaso reveals why he took up SC Villa assistant role

Former KCCA FC coach Morley Byekwaso has explained why he took up the assistant role at Ugandan Premier League side SC Villa.

On Tuesday, the Jogoos confirmed the acquisition of coach Dusan Stojanovic ahead of the new campaign on a two-year deal, replacing Jackson Mayanja, who was surprisingly let go on the back of a promising season.

The Serbian will take charge of the team assisted by Byekwaso, who has been given a three-year contract and will double as the coach for the Junior teams. Speaking afterwards, the Ugandan dismissed claims it was degrading working as an assistant to the Serbian.

“I thank the management of Villa for honouring me. It’s not an easy job but our work and commitment will lead us to success,” Byekwaso said as quoted by Swift Sports Uganda.

“Working as an assistant coach is not degrading have always wanted to work with white people to learn new things. Have worked with local coaches as an assistant and so this is the best chance in my life to learn new things from a foreign coach.”

Byekwaso is a former Villa player and won two league titles and the Cecafa club championship. He has also previously coached at SC Victoria University, Simba FC, and KCCA.
