Transfers Yanga SC ready to listen to Mayele offers amid Mamelodi Sundowns link

Young Africans (Yanga SC) have confirmed they are ready to open talks with any team interested to sign their deadly striker Fiston Mayele.

The 28-year-old Mayele has been in terrific form for the Tanzanian Premier League champions in the last two seasons and was crowned the Most Valuable Player in the just-concluded campaign after ending the season as the top scorer with 17 goals.

However, numerous reports have linked Mayele, who features for the DR Congo national team, with a move away from the Timu ya Mwananchi, though he still has one more year left on his contract, with the most notable being South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who have shown keen interest for his services.

Yanga Media and Communications Officer Ali Kamwe has revealed they are welcome to listen to offers from any club bidding for his signature.

“For Fiston [Mayele], his case is different from that of coach Nasreddine [Nabi] because he has one year to serve at the club, but if any team is keen to get him, we are ready to enter into discussion,” said Kamwe.

Meanwhile, Yanga have called on their fans to remain calm as they continue the process of hiring a new coach following the exit of Nabi after the conclusion of the past campaign.

Nabi parted ways with Yanga after helping the side to win a treble – Community Shield, Tanzanian league title, and Azam FC Cup – but according to the club’s Vice-President Arafat Haji, they are working round the clock to fill the void left by the Tunisian gaffer.

“We thank him for his achievements for our club; he has given us an extensive reputation of winning three domestic titles in two consecutive years,” said Haji, adding: “Coming and leaving is part of football life…Nabi came and has since departed just like the way others came and left in terms of players, coaches, and leaders.”

He added: “He [Nabi] is not the first person to leave and will not be the last, people will continue to come at Yanga, and when the time to leave comes, they will leave. Our fans should keep calm as their management is at work; we request them to trust us and give us enough time because good things are coming.”

Yanga will represent Tanzania in the Caf Champions League next season.
