AFCON Afcon 2023: Rwanda have no choice but to beat Mozambique – Gueulette

Rwanda midfielder Samuel Gueulette has called on his teammates to achieve their target of beating Mozambique in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Huye Stadium on Sunday.

Amavubi will face off with the OS Mambas in their fifth Group L fixture looking for victory to help them keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the finals to be held in Ivory Coast. According to Gueulette, who is making a return to the team after two years, they have no other choice than to defeat Mozambique.

“We have no choice but to win against Mozambique. We know it is our job to do so. We are working really hard in training to be ready on Sunday. I know the team will give everything,” said Gueulette as quoted by Times Sports.

On how he feels to make a comeback to the team, Gueulette, who features for Belgian third-tier side Raal La Louviere, said: “It feels really great to be back. The last time I played for the team was two years ago so it’s been a while. I am just honored and proud to be back with the selection and ready to give everything for the country.”

Born in Kigali to a Belgian father and a Rwandan mother, Gueulette grew up in the European country but chose to represent Rwanda and has featured from the U20 national team up to the senior level.

Amavubi are currently sitting third in their group with three points, while African champions Senegal are top on 12 points, Mozambique second on four, and Benin last with two points.
