Transfers Brighton agree fee with Ajax for Mohammed Kudus

Brighton have reportedly agreed a deal in principle for Ajax and Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the deal for the 23-year-old, who also had interest from Chelsea and Arsenal, is advanced since July. He wrote: “Brighton and Ajax have an agreement in place for Mohammed Kudus. The deal between clubs is advanced since July… always been waiting for the player. #BHAFC Fee around €40m, as reported. It depends on the player now, waiting to agree on personal terms.”

According to further reporting by Daily Mail, the Black Star, who can play behind the striker or as a winger, had told Ajax he did not wish to sign a new contract and decided a move this summer would be best for all parties. The Seagulls are hoping to finalise details over the coming days.

Kudus, who started his career with Danish side Nordsjælland before moving to Ajax, had an impressive return of 11 goals and three assists in the Eredivise last year. However, it was the youngster’s performances in Qatar last year – during the World Cup – that really drew attention to the Ghana midfielder.

The 23-year-old scored two goals for the Black Stars during their three Group Stage matches before the African nation were eventually sent home. Kudus was snapped up by Ajax in 2020 for £8m after impressing during his time at former club FC Nordsjaelland. In three years with the Dutch giants, the midfielder has managed to record 23 goals from 84 games and has won two Eredivisie titles.
