When England plays Nigeria in Brisbane on Monday for a chance to advance to the FIFA Women’s World Cup quarterfinals, Karen Carney warns that England must watch out for Nigeria forward Asisat Oshoala.

The 144-cap former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder for England believes his country is in fine form right now, but warns against underestimating Nigeria.

Although she has only scored once in the competition thus far, in a 3-2 victory over the tournament’s hosts Australia, Oshoala of Barcelona is their star player and will pose the most threat to Sarina Wiegman’s team.

Oshoala is a five-time African Player of the Year.

In an interview with Powerleague, Carney stated of the striker, “She is a top-quality player who is more than capable of pulling something out of the bag.”

“I anticipate that Nigeria would have high hopes and expectations, therefore we cannot take our success for granted.

Nigeria are a quality nation that will cause us issues, notwithstanding how good England was against China.

They have a striker of the highest calibre and several players who will be challenging for us.

“They are fighters, and they have no fear of anyone.”
