Kenya Arati, Nyamweya bury the hatchet, join forces for Shabana FC

The leadership wrangle at FKF Premier League newbies Shabana FC is set to be a thing of the past after Kisii Governor and Patron Sam Nyamweya agreed to work together to support the team.

Since the Kisii-based Glamour Boys earned promotion to the top flight, there have been infightings, especially on who is in charge of the team and it was evident on Sunday when Arati’s team unveiled a one-year sponsorship deal worth Ksh20million with Chinese betting firm Bangbet.

During the function, Nyamweya, who is the legit Patron of the club, did not show up. However, Africa Top Sports can now report Nyamweya and Arati have held talks through a telephone call on the way forward and agreed to bury the hatchet for the sake of the team.

“For the sake of Shabana and the Gusii community, they have agreed to work together, they have decided to move the team forward, and it is exactly what everyone wanted,” the source, who did not want to be named, told Africa Top Sports, adding: “The two held a phone conversation and I am happy a meeting has been set before the end of this week to chat out how they can work together.”

During the sponsorship unveiling ceremony, Arati, who is said to have brokered the deal, called on Nyamweya and other officials to join him in supporting the club, whose target is to win the league title this season.

“I have no problem working with Mheshimiwa Nyamweya,” Arati responded when asked about the leadership wrangles that have recently rocked the club since they earned promotion, adding: “Nyamweya should come and join us, he should actually be here (unveiling ceremony) with us, we need people with football minds to come on board and help us support this great team.”

He added: “I don’t have any problem with Nyamweya, I want all the people affiliated with Shabana to come in and support the team. I want the leaders from our community to come and give the team enough support. We must put all our political differences aside and support the team since the money from sponsors alone cannot sustain the team.”

He continued: “If Nyamweya or any other person as another sponsor available, they should bring it on board, we want the team to have a great season because my target is to see them lift the league title next season.”

Shabana will kick off their season against fellow promoted side Murang’a Seal FC on August 26.
