UEFA Champions League Guardiola Wary Of Sevilla Ahead Of UEFA Super Cup

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is wary Sevilla ahead of their first ever UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.

City will make their first-ever appearance in the Uefa Super Cup against Europa League champion Sevilla in Athens.

After years of heartbreak on Europe’s biggest stage, the Premier League champions won their first Champions League title in June and thus earned a spot in the Super Cup.

When asked how he felt about the Manchester club finally winning the Champions League, Guardiola responded, “It is a relief for the club. It’s never easy to triumph.

“Of course it is a relief but it is not enough otherwise we would be at home.

“We are hungry enough to compete and challenge ourselves.

“If someone wants to take out three crowns they will have to fight to take it.”

With a victory versus Sevilla, who have won the Europa League a record seven times, City can add another European championship to their collection of trophies on Wednesday.

Guardiola emphasised that it was “not easy” to qualify for European football’s opening match, adding that City will be aware of the threat posed by the Spanish squad.

“Sevilla has lost five of the six Super Cups they have participated in.

Sevilla have special character, it’s something in the DNA that makes this team different. They will be dangerous against us,” Guardiola said.

“You cannot imagine how happy that we are to play the Super Cup because we won the Champions League.

“Who knows when we will come back here to win this tournament?”
