Nigerian Players abroad Ndidi Stars In Leicester Win To Reach Third Round of Carabao Cup

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi put an impressive performance as he scored and assisted in Leicester City 2-0 win against Tranmere Rovers to reach the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Despite having more first-half possession than Tranmere, the Foxes were unable to register a shot on goal.

Ten minutes after the half, a tricky angle shot by Wilfred Ndidi gave the Foxes the lead.

Jamie Vardy quickly scored his first goal of the year by heading in Ndidi’s cross at the back post.

More than 23 years after he manned the net for Rovers as an 18-year-old in their 2000 League Cup final defeat to the Foxes at the old Wembley, Tranmere’s 42-year-old goalkeeping coach Joe Murphy donned the gloves as he did in the first round.

Dan Pike and Josh Hawkes both presented opportunities for Leicester’s Polish custodian Jakub Stolarczyk to make saves in the opening quarter, while Cesare Casadei twice came close for City after an excellent opening chance for Harry Winks.

After taking the lead, Leicester had additional opportunities to increase their advantage, but Wanya Marcal-Madivadua and Ndidi’s attempts were stopped with 10 minutes remaining, and Casadei also came near.

Jordan Turnbull made a good save to save Yunus Akgun from scoring late on, while Rovers substitute Reece McAlear had a late shot blocked. Tranmere struggled to create chances.
