UEFA Elneny makes Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League squad

Egypt international Mohamed Elneny has made Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League squad despite having yet to play a game in 2023.

Arsenal will take part in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2016-17, having finished second in the Premier League last season. The Gunners were drawn in Group B with Europa League winners Sevilla, PSV Eindhoven, and French side Lens, opening their campaign against the Dutch side at the Emirates Stadium on September 20.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has now confirmed his squad for the competition, which includes the club’s current longest-serving player Mohamed Elneny. Elneny hasn’t made an appearance for Arsenal since December 31 when he came on as a late substitute in a 4-2 win at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Egyptian joined Summer signings Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and David Raya, but Jurrien Timber was left out after his serious knee injury. The squad also included youngster Lino Sousa, who is yet to make his first-team debut for Arsenal.

Defenders: Cedric, Lino Sousa, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ben White, Gabriel, Jakub Kiwior, William Saliba.

Midfielders: Mohamed Elneny, Jorginho, Thomas Partey, Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Fabio Vieira, Emile Smith Rowe.

Forwards: Leandro Trossard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Jesus.
