Last season’s NBA MVP Joel Embiid will not represent his native country Cameroon but rather Team USA as he informed the team’s staff to join them for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Between the United States, whose nationality he acquired the previous year, Cameroon his native country and France whose nationality he recently acquired, Embiid finally decided in favor of the country which revealed him to world basketball.

The kid from Yaounde chose to play for Team USA, informing the team’s sporting director, Grant Hill, of his decision.

“Embiid informed Team USA executive director Grant Hill of his decision on Thursday morning, just days after the two quietly met for close to an hour in Ft Collins, Colo., where the Sixers are holding training camp”, sources told ESPN.

Embiid, who was born in Cameroon and holds both French and American citizenship, has been at the center of an intense recruiting battle over which country he will represent at the Olympics.

The 29-year old aims to help the United States return to the top of the international basketball world after it failed to medal at the World Championships in Manila this summer.
