Uganda BUL FC edge out SC Villa to stretch lead at UPL summit

Ugandan Premier League title contenders BUL FC went three points clear at the top of the table after edging SC Villa 2-1 at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Tuesday.

George Kasonko and Ronald Otti scored for the visitors while Umar Lutalo’s second-half goal could only count as a consolation for Villa. This was BUL’s fifth straight win of the campaign in as many matches, and further emphasises their vow to challenge for their first-ever premier league title.

Coach Abbey Kikomeko’s boys are now on 15 points, three ahead of another perfect team in Kitara, who could join BUL on the same points if they beat Wakiso Giants on Wednesday. Villa, who were losing their second game in five, are ninth on five points. BUL played with the aura of a team that knows what to do, going ahead on 34 minutes when Kasonko headed in Otti’s corner.

The visitors doubled their lead three minutes later when Otti himself got on the scoresheet, also heading in Jerome Kirya’s corner. Villa did pull one back on 63 minutes when midfielder Lutalo made the most of Jonah Kakande’s pass but BUL held on for all three points.
