Africa Soccer Al Ahly must improve on finishing – Koller after Simba SC draw

Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller believes his side will have to improve their finishing in the upcoming games this season.

The Reds advanced to the African Football League semi-finals after overcoming Tanzanian giants Simba SC following a 3-3 draw on aggregate. Despite their qualification, Al Ahly’s performance in the return leg raised concerns among fans and pundits as the Egyptian champions made it through on away goals.

Speaking after the game, Koller addressed his side’s issues and also provided an update on summer-signing Emam Ashour. “We controlled the game but wasted so many opportunities,” Koller said in the press conference after the game, adding: “If we had converted these chances, the result would be different but this is something that we are constantly working on in training. Emam Ashour needed more time to return to full fitness and I don’t like to rush players who are not 100% ready.”

Al Ahly will now face Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals of the inaugural competition.
