Liverpool Klopp Says Liverpool Will Be Well Prepared Against Man City

The manager of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp, stated that he would tune in to witness Saturday’s thrilling match between his club and Manchester City from anywhere in the globe.

However, he also stated that one game does not define his team’s prospects of winning the title.

It’s not a test on how close we get to City, it’s just a really super exciting game, I would watch it wherever on the planet,” Klopp told the press on Friday.

“We have to prepare for it properly and we know we have to be at our best to get a chance. We will see.”

With five straight wins, Klopp’s squad has closed the gap on Premier League leaders City to just one point in the closely contested title fight.

“A lot of games we were good and deserved what we got,” he said. “We needed to get the points.

“With City, I don’t know 100%, but they got a point here, a point there, stuff like this, unexpected ones. That’s the quality they have, the desire to win the next one that’s pretty special.”

With 12 games played, City has 28 points. They have established a stronghold at Etihad Stadium, winning 23 straight matches there in all competitions.

Man City are who they are and they’re extremely strong and we have to be as strong as possible,” Klopp said.

The matchup between the two most productive strikers in the league—Erling Haaland of City, who leads the scoring table with 13 goals this year, three more than Mohamed Salah of Liverpool—should be exciting.

However, Haaland hurt his ankle when for Norway in a Euro 2024 qualifying match on November 16, and City manager Pep Guardiola said that Haaland practised “with niggles” on Thursday.

Only two teams in the top flight against which Haaland has not scored are Liverpool and them.

Darwin Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in June of last year, and Klopp lauded the “pretty special partnership” the two have developed on the offensive line. Of Salah’s last seven Premier League goals, Nunez has assisted three of them.

“You can’t become a Liverpool player if you’re not football-smart,” Klopp said.

“Darwin and Mo look for each other but it’s not like they cut out the other boys. It’s just a different way of playing.

“Mo supports the boys. Darwin came here, big expectations, and Mo probably understood the situation best and saw his potential and wanted to help him.

“Without having the longest conversation, that was for sure the start of a pretty special partnership.”

Nunez led Uruguay to three goals in two matches over the current international break.
