Women Football WAFCON Qualifiers: Clement brace hands Tanzania huge win

Tanzania’s national women’s football team Twiga Stars have registered a heavy 3-0 win over Togo in the first leg match of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.

The game at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam on Thursday saw Opah Clement score a brace and an own goal by the visitors. It is a sound victory as it gives the hosting side an upper hand to qualify for the WAFCON finals.

The country’s envoys eliminated Ivory Coast 4-2 on post-match penalties in the first round to qualify for the second round. Up next, the two teams will meet for a re-match in Togo on December 5th and the overall winner progresses to the WAFCON finals slated in Morocco.

Tanzania is crafting to deploy two teams at the biggest continent’s football showdown as the senior football team Taifa Stars already qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals. If the women’s team makes it to the WAFCON finishing line, then it will be a double victory for the nation.
