Kenya Alila backs Namwamba: Kenyan football lacks transparency, good governance

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Presidential aspirant Tom Alila has backed CS for Sports Ababu Namwamba’s statement that Kenyan football lacks transparency, accountability, and good governance.

Speaking when the government in conjunction with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) unveiled the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, (KBC) as its official FKF Premier League Free to Air (FTA) broadcast partner, Namwamba did not shy away from hitting out at the Federation claiming they had failed to take Kenyan football to the next level because they lack good governance.

“I want to urge the FKF to use this package as a launching pad to take Kenyan football to the next level, and taking Kenyan football to the next level is about transparency, accountability, and good governance,” said Namwamba, adding: “If there is one thing that is holding Kenyan football back it is those three factors, transparency, accountability and governance.”

Speaking to Africa Top Sports, Alila, who has shown his interest in vying for the presidency when elections are held in February 2024, said: “I agree in totality with CS Ababu (Namwamba) that Kenyan football is lagging because those in office are not good enough to lead us.

“It is unfortunate our FKF currently lacks transparency, accountability, and good governance, and it is the reason, we want fresh blood injected into the management of the game in the country. Those in office have already failed us, they have nothing tangible to offer and we are glad their term of office is now coming to an end.”

On the same note, Alila prevailed upon Namwamba to compel FKF to move with speed and give the notice and roadmap for the upcoming elections. “I want to request Namwamba to call on FKF to convene an urgent AGM so they can come up with the date for elections, there is nothing to hide here now, FKF’s term of office is coming to an end and we need a roadmap for the polls.

“We are hoping that FKF give us the way forward soon, otherwise we already have our plan B, and will seek legal redress over the matter. They (FKF) have already served two terms and the constitution does not allow them to seek re-election.”

Under the seven-year partnership, the Federation is will receive USD 1,250,000 million for the first season, with an increment of USD 100,000 for the subsequent seasons. KBC, on its part, shall air a total of 68 matches, two every match week, on its TV and Radio platforms.
