The new Intercontinental Cup will be held yearly starting next year, according to Gianni Infantino, the chairman of world soccer’s governing body.
FIFA’s revised Club World Cup, scheduled for 2025 and including 32 teams, will take place from June 15 to July 13.
FIFA overwhelmingly decided to name the United States as the host of the event’s inaugural edition after announcing an expanded Club World Cup earlier this year.

In addition to confirming the dates for the Club World Cup, the Council convened in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to decide that the champion of the UEFA Champions League will face a team that advances through the intercontinental playoffs in the Intercontinental Cup the following year.
“The tournament will feature all current confederation premier club competition champions,” FIFA President Infantino said.
“(It) concludes with a final at a neutral venue between the UEFA Champions League winners and the winners of an intercontinental play-off between clubs from the other confederations.”
Additionally, the Council determined that Poland would host the Under-20 Women’s World Cup in 2026 and Chile would host the Under-20 World Cup in 2025.
