Turkish Super Lig Drama As Istanbulspor Players Walk Out Of Pitch In Turkish Super Lig

After a one-week punishment due to a club president punching a referee, Istanbulspor, a Turkish team, protested by walking off the pitch during their Super Lig match against Trabzonspor on Tuesday.

After Florian Loshaj and Batista Mendy clashed, sending the former sprawling to the ground, Trabzonspor scored through Paul Onuachu to take a 2-1 lead. Istanbulspor felt they should have been given a penalty.

The 74th minute of the match ended with the team being told to leave the field by Istanbulspor chairman Ecmel Faik Sarıalioglu.

A few Istanbulspor players seemed hesitant to go off the pitch. At that point, the game was dropped.

It is a sad day for football… We will wait for the football federation’s decision from now on,” Trabzonspor coach Abdullah Avci said.

.The incident happened on the first day of play again after a week-long ban.

The previous week, Faruk Koca, the president of Ankaragucu, a top division club, attacked the referee on the pitch.

After being detained the day after the game, Koca was given a permanent ban by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF).

In addition, the TFF board decided that Ankaragucu would have to pay a fine of two million lira ($69,000) and forfeit five home games due to the disturbances between supporters and club officials.
