Nigeria Women Football League NWFL: Delta Queens Begin 2024 With Victory

Delta Queens returned to winning way in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Women Football League NWFL season with a comfortable 3-1 win against Sunshine Stars Ladies at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Matchday 7.

After ending 2023 with a 1-0 loss to Edo Queens at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Matchday 6 before the NWFL went on break for the yuletide season, the defending champions were bent on ensuring they claim all three points.

They started the game pressing hard to get an early goal and in the 16th minute, Olabiyi Folajomi fired her team upfront as she calmly slotted the ball pass the visitors goalkeeper who had denied Chinaza Agoh several opportunity to score.

Despite taking the lead, the host kept pressing to double it as Chinaza Agoh missed a one-on-one situation and other clear cut opportunities.

However, she finally scored in the 45th minute to double Delta Queens lead heading to the first half break.

The second half resumed with the hosts looking so comfortable as they allowed Sunshine Stars Ladies to push for the offensive.

Ten minutes into the second half,
Bolaji Olamide brilliant finish from an in swing set piece reduced the deficit for the visitors.

Temitope Owoeye restored Delta Queens two goal advantage in the 79th minute to seal the victory for the champions.

The 2023/2024 season will go on mid-season break.
