Gasset announced prior to the AFCON that Haller would not participate in Guinea-Bissau’s Group A opening.

But he did say there was a chance he might be back on January 18 to play against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

During his pregame press conference on Wednesday, Gasset stated that the coaching staff would have to decide if Haller will play against the Eagles.

“Haller is recovering well, as well as he should, in his situation.

“We shall assess his progress and make a judgement, on match fitness, at the appropriate time.”

The coach continued by discussing his hopes for improved playing turf at Alassane Ouattara Stadium for Thursday’s match.

“The pitch was dry on the opening day. I hope we will have a better pitch tomorrow [against Nigeria].”
