AFCON AFCON 2023: We Have To Show Respect To Opponents- Peseiro

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, believes it’s critical for his team to maintain humility before facing Guinea-Bissau in Group A.

On Monday, the Djurtus will take on the three-time champions at Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium.

On Thursday, the Super Eagles overcame the Cote d’Ivoire hosts 1-0.

The team led by Peseiro is a clear favourite versus Guinea-Bissau coming into the match.

Following losses to Equatorial Guinea and Cote d’Ivoire in their initial two games, Baciro Cande’s team is without a point in the competition.

Nonetheless, the Portuguese coach has advised his team to treat their opponent with respect and not let their victory over Cote d’Ivoire cloud their judgement.

We beat Cote d’Ivoire, it’s good for us, our confidence and what we want to achieve in this competition,” Peseiro said during his interaction with the media on Sunday.

“It also improve our confidence, but we also need to show more commitment.

“We have to respect the opponent.

“Guinea-Bissau have good players, they can beat any team.

“We have seen so many shocking results in this competition already.

“It is important for us to take it game by game and not think too far.

“We want to show better performance, show our quality, and capacity. If we do that no team can beat us.”

Super Eagles, With four points after two games, are in second place in Group A.

Peseiro’s team only needs a draw to guarantee a spot in the Round of 16.
