Top News Former Chelsea Manager Voted As FC Porto New President

Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa’s illustrious 42-year reign as FC Porto president has come to an end with the election of Andre Villas-Boas, a former manager of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

After starting his coaching career at Porto as Jose Mourinho’s assistant, Villas-Boas led the team to a triple in 2011, which included winning the Europa League.

In the election on Saturday, the 46-year-old received 21,489 votes and won with an 80.3% majority.

Winning, winning titles and sustaining our club for the future is what I want,” Villas-Boas said in a statement.

“It’s a victory for Porto’s members. Because of the responsibility they give me, I promise to give my life for Porto.

“Our club is alive and today it showed its strength. I launched this candidacy for the club and its members.

” I received the strength, energy and confidence that has brought us this far.”

Villas-Boas praised Pinto da Costa’s impact, saying that the man brought 27 league titles and two Champions League trophies to Porto since he took over in 1982.

I would like to thank him for everything he has given to Porto, for the life he has given to Porto, and I would like to assure him that this is and always will be his home,” Villas-Boas said.

After a dismal season, Porto is currently third in the Portuguese first division.

They are out of Portugal’s cup competition after losing to Arsenal in the round of sixteen in the Champions League.
