The Trinidad and Tobago Amateur Boxing Association that is the Local fighters as well as administrators are currently busy preparing for the 2013 National Amateur Boxing Championships which is scheduled to take place from January 30 to February 03 at the Woodbrook Youth Facility.

At Hasely Crawford Stadium, amateur boxers from several gyms were practicing their skills on last Friday and yesterday at the Cosmic Boxing Gym in Marabella filled with fighters which there was no difference.

Boxers and coaches of Trinidad and Tobago where also under intense preparation from other gyms throughout.

Fighters were engaging in rope-skipping, hitting bags, working the hand pads and sparring.

Coaches were seen observing their amateurs in action and shouting instructions every once in a while.

President of the Amateur Association Cecil Forde said he was pleased with the commitment by the boxers from the gyms so far.

“Approximately twenty gyms have registered for this Championship, with well over a hundred amateur boxers altogether. Each weight division has more than five or six participants so the Championships should be very competitive”.

The 2012 National Championships was quite competitive and with all things considered, 2013 seems to be heading in the same direction.
