tunisie-maroc_afrobasket2013Big sensation at the Palais des Sports of Treichville, Tunisia will not defend its title. The African champion in 2011 was broken the arm by a militant Egyptian team during the second day of the fourth round of the Afrobasket 2013, 67-77.

After three defeats in the group stage, the Pharaohs chose their best time to wake up. Not letting anything in the Maghreb derby, Egypt led the race from the first quarter (15-19) and led by 7 points at the half-time, 28-35. The gap increases to 12 four minutes to the end of the game (53-65), but Tunisia tried one last hurray and returned within six (63-69). Egypt is on the right track and eventually created the first surprise of the 27th edition of the Afrobasket by paying the scalp of the defending champions.

Tunisia had already shown signs of weakness against Rwanda, winning just on experience during the final day of group matches.
