Premier League Liverpool Line Up Arne Slot As Klopp Replacement

Arne Slot, the coach of Feyenoord, has been lined up by Liverpool to replace departing manager Juergen Klopp, and the two clubs have initiated negotiations, according to reports in the Dutch media on Wednesday.

The Algemeen Dagblad newspaper stated that Liverpool communicated with Feyenoord on Wednesday morning.

Slot was strongly linked to a potential transfer to Tottenham Hotspur last year, but he decided to stay at Feyenoord and inked a contract extension with the Dutch team until 2026.

The reports further stated that Liverpool would have to pay Feyenoord an exact amount in exchange for Slot’s services.

He won the KNVB Cup on Sunday and the league championship with Feyenoord in the 2022–23 season, receiving a lot of plaudits for his creative, attacking style of game.

He also guided Feyenoord of Rotterdam to the Europa Conference League final during his first season there.

After serving as a journeyman midfielder at AZ Alkmaar, Slot started his coaching career there.

He first worked as John van den Brom’s assistant until taking over as head coach in 2019–20.

In response to inquiries concerning Slot’s future, Feyenoord CEO Dennis te Kloese stated earlier this week in an ESPN interview: “We anticipate that he will also serve as our trainer next season.

“We have experienced this situation before and will take good care of our own interests.”

Ruben Amorim, the coach of Sporting Lisbon, was also mentioned in relation to the top position at Liverpool.

The announcement that Klopp would leave his position as manager of Liverpool at the end of the season was made in January.

Since joining the team in October 2015, the German has won the Community Shield, FA Cup, League Cup, Super Cup, Champions League, Premier League, and Club World Cup.

Liverpool has won the League Cup in his final season and is still a contender for the Premier League crown.

With 33 games played and 74 points overall, Liverpool is three points behind leaders Arsenal but still has a game in hand in the rankings.

Later on Wednesday, they play a league game away at Everton, their local rivals.
