Asia 2022 World Cup: Slavery in Qatar?

Stadion, Al ShamalQatar 2022 is again at the heart of a scandal. The migrant workers who work on the sites that will host this global event are exploited according to The Guardian. The British newspaper goes further by calling the working conditions of the latter, “slavery”.

According to the same source, relayed by 10 Sports at least 44 workers were killed between June 4 and August 8. More than half died of a heart attack, heart failure or accident. The paper also discusses unpaid wages and food deprivation.

These new revelations challenge Fifa on the choice of the Gulf country to host the 2022 World Cup. Qatar has already suffered from the corruption case commonly called “Qatargate.” The latest controversy over the organization of the World Cup in this country was on the calendar.

As Africa Top Sports reported earlier, the UEFA president Michel Platini supports the organization of the competition in winter. This proposal is not to the liking of Britons who do not wish to see their Christmas week being disrupted.
