Africa Soccer Manqoba Mngqithi hails “high team confidence” after win over TP Mazembe

Manqoba Mngqithi

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi praised his players confidence as Brazilians secured important away win (1-2) over TP Mazembe on Saturday.

The Dstv Premiership managed to defeat the DR Congo powerhouse though they finished at ten following the red card of Ricardo Nascimiento (73′).

Peter Shalulile and Lyle Lakay scored to hand the visitors win as Trésor Mputu’s goal was helpless.

And that performance pleased coach Mngqithi.

“First one should thank COVID-19, with your supporters it is always different when the stadium is full you always give a good account of yourselves“, Manqoba Mngqithi said.

“I must also not take away the credit from the team, I think we were prepared for this encounter. We knew we were playing against a very good team, but our confidence was very high.

“We have played more than twenty games and we have not lost a game which is also a good account for the team and the way we prepare. The boys fought hard. I must say some circumstances within the game were difficult for the boys”

“We did a lot of video analysis, we knew almost all of their combinations, we knew all their strong players, we were anticipating that their number nine would be starting and thought that he would be a thorn in our sides.

“We knew both their centre backs are right-footed and planned that if we press them more to the left there would be limitations”, he added.
