Nigeria Augustine Eguavoen makes SHOCKING claim on Gernot Rohr’s sacking

Super Eagles interim coach Augustine Eguavoen opened up on the sacking of ex-Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr in December las year just before the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021 kick-off in Cameroon earlier this year.

The 56-year old tactician spoke exclusively to Ghanaian television 3TV ahead of Nigeria’s clash with Ghana Black Stars on Friday at the Baba Yara Stadium (19:30 GMT).

Eguavoen evoked many subjects especially the ‘Jollof Derby’, but also the sacking of Gernot Rohr who is Nigeria’s longest serving-coach (2016-2021).

The former Super Eagles defender said he doesn’t know the reason why Rohr was sacked.

“I have to give a lot of credits to the former coach [Gernot Rohr]. He’s actually the one who assembled this team”, he said.

“Grinding results here and there for a couple of years and then the last few months before his exit.

“Only God knows why, because the same team, the same style of football but all of a sudden he struggled a little bit, that is why I still need to give him credit.”
