Nigeria Super Falcons To Play US Women National Team September

Super Falcons of Nigeria, nine-time African champions, will go to the United States for a two-match trip against the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) in September.

Both teams, who are currently engaged in separate continental tournaments, will square off at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas on September 3 and then again at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. on September 6.

The USWNT has won four out of the eight titles that have been played for, making them the most successful team in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Stars & Stripes won the inaugural competition in China in 1991, followed by victories on American soil in 1999, Canada in 2015, and France in 2013.

In addition, the group has eight CONCACAF championships and four gold Olympic women’s football medals.

The Super Falcons, who are scheduled to play Cameroon in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal match on Thursday night, have won the African championship nine times, participated in every FIFA Women’s World Cup, and also competed in the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympic women’s football competitions.

They continue to be the most prosperous women’s group on the continent of Africa.

While Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League and D.C. United of Major League Soccer play at Audi Field, Kansas City of the US National Women’s Soccer League and Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer call Children’s Mercy Park home.

Vlatko Andonovski, who was named USWNT Coach at the end of 2019, will make a second trip home for the game in Kansas City.

The USWNT will play at Children’s Mercy Park for the sixth time, but it will be their first time at Audi Field. Prior to this, they had played 10 times in Washington, all at RFK Stadium.

Andonovski says he’s excited to send out his girls against the Super Falcons: “First, I’m just excited to play two matches against Nigeria.

They have some very talented players who will present a lot of different problems for us to solve on both sides of the ball.

“Secondly, of course we’re looking forward to bringing the team back to one of the best soccer stadiums in the United States in Kansas City, as well as getting to play our first game at Audi Field, which I’ve visited several times for NWSL games and is also a fantastic venue for our team to play in front of our home fans.”

As the 12th team to go to the finals and the first from the CONCACAF region, the USWNT has already qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Randy Waldrum, a longtime college coach from the United States, is also the coach of Nigeria’s Falcons.

With Nigeria, he hopes to win the first African championship and a spot in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
