UEFA Champions League UCL:Manchester City Demolish Bayern Munich At Etihad

Manchester City took a huge advantage in reaching the semi final of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals with a 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the first leg of the last-eight tie on Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola faced Bayern Munich for the first time since leaving Germany, and he easily defeated old foe Thomas Tuchel, whose Chelsea beat City in the 2021 final.

Rodri’s spectacular first Champions League goal gave City the lead at halftime, before Bernardo Silva added a second as pressure mounted on the Bayern goal in the final 20 minutes, and Erling Haaland’s 45th goal of the season – an outright Premier League record – soon followed.

Guardiola and City have blown numerous leads in this competition against weaker opponents than Bayern, but they were dominant by full-time and will enter the return match with complete control of the tie.

After 27 minutes, Rodri evaded Jamal Musiala’s pressure by chopping onto his left foot 25 yards from goal before curling high past Yann Sommer, and City went in search of a quick second.

Dayot Upamecano and Sommer both failed to deal with a cross from the City right, with the goalkeeper merely assisting it into the path of Ilkay Gundogan before making an instinctive save.

Although Leroy Sane led the response with a shot wide before half-time, he was followed by three on target after the restart, the best of which drew a low save from Ederson, the mix-ups in the Bayern back line only increased as the game progressed.

Sommer made quick saves from Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias, but was unable to get enough on Silva’s header after Upamecano had passed the ball to Jack Grealish, who set the City attack in motion.

Another save from Julian Alvarez appeared to have kept Bayern in the game, but Haaland scored off a John Stones knockdown to leave the Bundesliga giants facing an uphill battle in Germany.
