Real Madrid Rodrygo Double Hands Real Madrid Copa del Rey Title

Real Madrid won the Copa del Rey on Saturday by defeating a tenacious Osasuna 2-1 thanks to Rodrygo’s double.

In front of a crowded Estadio de La Cartuja, the Brazilian forward scored twice to lead Los Blancos to their second trophy of the year.

The victory puts an end to Madrid’s nine-year winless streak in Spain’s most prestigious cup competition.

Madrid last claimed victory under Carlo Ancelotti’s previous leadership in 2014.

However, it is a disappointing outcome for Jagoba Arrasate’s Osasuna, as Lucas Torro’s goal had given them hope of pulling off an upset in their first Copa del Rey final appearance in 18 years.

Within the first two minutes, Madrid played up to their reputation as heavy favorites when Rodrygo swept Sergio Herrera with Vinicius Junior’s explosive cutback.

After making that early concession, Osasuna immediately went on the attack. Ante Budimir forced Thibaut Courtois to make a series of saves, while Dani Carvajal had to deflect an attempt from Abde Ezzalzouli.

As Madrid attempted to increase their lead, David Alaba hit the crossbar, and Vinicius’ fervent cries for a penalty on the verge of halftime were ignored.

When Torro scored a beautiful low goal beyond Courtois from beyond the area just before the hour mark, Madrid paid the price for those missed opportunities.

However, Madrid bounced back, and after Toni Kroos’ attempt was deflected, Rodrygo was there to pick up the pieces and nudge another goal in.

Los Blancos came dangerously close to being punished once more in stoppage time when Karim Benzema was unable to add gloss to the scoreline.

However, Carvajal made a last-ditch save to stop Kike Barja and guarantee Madrid completed their lengthy wait for a 20th Copa title.
