Uganda Vipers SC warned against complacency as they face Police FC

Vipers SC head coach Alex Isabirye has warned his players not to underrate Police FC when they face off in the Uganda Cup final at Akii-Bua Stadium in Lira on Saturday.

The final presents the Venoms with an opportunity to fight for a league and Cup double which has always eluded them whenever under such a situation.

Vipers have already been crowned the Ugandan Premier League title after beating Busoga United 5-0 to top the table on goal difference and clinch their sixth title in history.

“I know the game won’t be easy. There is no weak team that reaches a final. It’s been tough to get here but only one of us can be crowned champions, and we have to make sure it’s us.” said Isabirye as quoted by the club’s official website.

History shows only SC Villa on six occasions (1986, 1988, 1989, 1998, 2000 & 2002), Express (1995), and KCCA (2017) are the only Ugandan clubs to have ever achieved that feat of wrapping up a double.

During the 2017-18 campaign under Jorge Miguel Da Costa, Vipers won the league and reached the Uganda Cup final against KCCA only to lose 1-0 to the Kasasiro Boys through a Julius Poloto goal.

Last season under the guidance of Brazilian Roberto Oliveira, the Venoms won the league title with seven matches to spare and reached the Uganda Cup final against BUL, but failed to triumph.

The winner of the trophy will represent Uganda in the Caf Confederation Cup for next season.
