AFCON AFCON2023Q: Tanzania Eyes Win Against Niger At Dar es Salaam

Tanzania will host Niger at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday afternoon in an effort to move one step closer to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The race for qualification from Group F is still tight.

The game will begin at 3 CAT (SA, GMT+2).

Algeria, who secured their spot in the continental championship on matchday 4 by retaining their spotless record in the qualifications, is eight points ahead of the Taifa Stars in second place in the group.

Following the doubleheader in March, in which both teams won 1-0 away from home, Adel Amrouche’s team is tied with Uganda on four points and has the same record after four games.

Amrouche has begun to look toward the future by selecting a young team for the match on June 18 at home.

A total of 11 players from Young Africans and Simba have been called up as recognition for their success in the CAF club championships.

We have some new players and dropped others in order to give a chance to the under-20 players like Azam goalkeeper Ayubu Idrissa and Morris [Abraham], the captain of the under-17 side.

“We tried to bring the age of the squad down so that we can prepare for the future with the new players.

“There are no surprises. This is what we have in the league.

We are pleased with the progress of the younger players, and we appreciated both Yanga and Simba for their good performances this season, which is good for our football.

“When our players play at the high level, it is good for the national team.”

The Menas still have a slim chance of making it to the tournament in Ivory Coast the following year, but they need outcomes from the remaining two games to go their way.

With just two points from their first four games—two 1-1 draws against Tanzania and the Cranes to start their campaign—Jean-Michel Cavalli’s team is last in the group.

After grabbing the lead in Algiers, losing 2-1, and losing by one goal in Tunis four days later, they gave the Fennec Foxes a scare on matchday three.

The Taifa Stars play the group leaders in the championship game and aren’t anticipated to get all three points, so the West Africans need to win this weekend to put pressure on them.
