Europe Euro 2024 Qualifier: England ease to huge win over minnows Malta

England continued with their winning start to the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a 4-0 thrashing of minnows Malta on Friday night.

In the matchday three Group C fixture at Ta’ Qali National Stadium, The Three Lions set their noses ahead with only eight minutes played when Ferdinando Apap turned the ball into his own net while under pressure to clear a dangerous ball inside the area.

Trent Alexander-Arnold then scored a stunning goal in the 28th minute for the Gareth Southgate-led side before Harry Kane made it 3-0 from the penalty spot in the 31st minute and substitute Callum Wilson rounded off the emphatic victory from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute.

The victory makes it three out of three for England in the qualification campaign after they beat Italy and Ukraine in March, keeping them top of Group C, and also featured a debut for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze from the bench.

England will next come up against North Macedonia at Old Trafford on Monday while Malta will face Ukraine in their next Group C match at the Stadion Antona Malatinskeho in Slovakia also on Monday.

Germany are scheduled to host the tournament, which will take place from June 14 to July 14, 2024. The format will be the same as Euro 2020, where the top two in each of the six final tournament groups will proceed to the round of 16, along with the four best third-placed finishers.
