Uganda Vipers SC unveil Brazilian Giancarlo ahead of new campaign

Ugandan Premier League (UPL) outfit Viper SC have completed the signing of Brazilian striker Giancarlo Lopez Rodriguez ahead of the new season.

The 33-year-old, who becomes the first signing for the Venoms, has penned a two-year-deal to stay at St. Marys Kitende until 2025 with the solitary aim of bolstering the club’s striking department and add quality to the squad.

“Vipers have completed the signing of hugely-versed Brazilian striker Giancarlo Lopez Rodriguez as the first man to join the Venoms in the on-going transfer window,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

Rodriguez is a proven journeyman who has not only played in South America but also plied his trade in Asia. He started his career in his country of birth Ferroviario in the 2012-13 season, joined EC Vitoria, and later moved to Treza FC in 2014.

Still in Brazil, he turned out for Sao Caetano, Santo Andre, Macae, Rio Branco-AC, Ferroviario (second short stint in 2015), and Sousa in 2016 before leaving for Guarani-CE later that year. In 2017 as a free agent, Rodriguez joined Villa Nova, which he left in December of that year for America-RJ.

In 2019, he jumped ship and operated outside South America for the first time where he joined Petaling Jaya City FC in Malaysia for a short stint. Rodriguez finds able competition at the Ugandan champions for the starting role with Nigerian Abubakar Lawal and the Ugandan trio of Yunus Sentamu, Karim Ndugwa and Cromwell Rwothomio.
